IT and programming internships in Estonia

What IT internships look like in Estonia 2026

IT internships in Estonia typically split between web development, mobile, testing (QA) and system administration. The biggest employers are in Tallinn and Tartu, but remote spots across Estonia keep growing. Startups take interns flexibly, while state firms and banks run structured programmes starting in spring and autumn.

What is expected of an IT intern

Most spots require no experience, but basics in one language (Python, JavaScript or Java), Git and a willingness to learn help a lot. Show your GitHub, coursework or portfolio — it often outweighs a diploma. English is practically required in IT; Estonian is usually a plus.

Turning an IT internship into a job

In IT, internships often turn into jobs — growing your own is cheaper than hiring anew. Ask for feedback early, take on real tasks and document what you did. If no role opens up, ask for a reference and a LinkedIn endorsement — Estonia’s IT community is small and referrals travel fast.
